The Women, Peace and Security agenda of the United Nations Women Organisation, and the role of women in conflict prevention and peaceful resolution, were in the focus of a meeting between Tea Akhvlediani, the Georgian State Minister for Reconciliation and Civil Equality, and Kaori Ishikawa, the UN Women Country Representative in Georgia, on Friday.
Akhvlediani and Ishikawa exchanged views on supporting the strengthening of the involvement of women in the peace process with regard to the occupied regions of the country, with the Georgian Minister informing the UN official about her ministry’s efforts in the direction.
Akhvlediani also briefed Ishikawa about her ministry’s efforts regarding promotion of active involvement of organisations working on women and women's issues in the implementation of the policy of reconciliation and involvement of relevant communities in the country.
The Georgian Minister stressed the significance of the international organisation’s involvement in the implementation of the Women, Peace and Security agenda in Georgia, while Ishikawa reaffirmed her support for the work of the State Minister’s Office and expressed her “full readiness” to further strengthen cooperation on various issues.
UN Women has been working in Georgia since 2001 and established a full-fledged Country Office in 2013.
