Khatia Gogaladze has become the first woman to be appointed as the 1st Lieutenant and Infantry Company Commander in the Georgian Defence Forces, the United Nations agency - UN Women Georgia said on Friday.
The agency noted the 27-year-old Georgian had “achieved a historic milestone”, highlighting her “exemplary professional achievements” and “significant contribution” to the UN Women’s efforts to highlight “the invaluable role women play in the defence sector and advancing gender equality”.
Khatia's [Gogaladze] unwavering determination and professionalism serve as an inspirational example for young women aspiring to pursue military careers or taking their initial steps in that direction”, the UN agency stressed.
Gogaladze, who has served in the Defence Forces since 2014, was highlighted in the UN Women’s publication Women in Service to Georgia, which was published in 2022 with the support of the Georgian Defence Ministry and the United Kingdom Government.
