Georgian Parliament’s Gender Equality Council and US Embassy representatives discuss violence against women, domestic violence and legislative changes

The legislation to prevent violence against women and domestic violence, as well as protection and assistance to victims, and the legislative changes required to be implemented, were discussed on Tuesday by Georgian Parliament members of the Gender Equality Council and the representatives of the United States Embassy. 

Tsilosani, the Chair of the Council said that lack of female experts, especially in the regions had made provision of  expertise to abused women “discomforting and traumatic” and noted the Council had already discussed the issue with the Samkharauli National Forensic Bureau.

She also highlighted the “successful and fruitful” cooperation with the US Embassy and said there had been “effective” models in the US and Europe to “timely” deliver such expertise with “appropriate quality”, and added that the sides had discussed the legislative changes in this direction.
