Deputy Interior Minister, UN Women Rep discuss plans for strengthening human rights protection

Plans for strengthening the capacities of the protection of human rights and agencies of the Interior Ministry were on the agenda of a meeting between Aleksandre Darakhvelidze, the Georgian Deputy Interior Minister, and Kaori Ishikawa, the United Nations Women Country Representative in Georgia, on Tuesday. 

Darakhvelidze and Ishikawa discussed plans for improving the capabilities of the Ministry’s Investigation Quality Monitoring Department, among other sections.

The cooperation between the Ministry and UN Women, and the results achieved through it, were also reviewed, with the Deputy Minister emphasising the importance of projects and activities implemented by UN Women for developing the Ministry’s capabilities. 

Darakhvelidze thanked the international organisation for its years-long support and cooperation with the country’s state body, and for support in implementation in areas such as measures against domestic violence and violence against women, as well as gender equality and sexual harassment. 

UN Women has been working in Georgia since 2001, and established a full-fledged Country Office in 2013.
