Deputy interior minister highlights ministry’s role in ensuring equality at opening event of CoE campaign - ‘I choose equality’

Georgian deputy interior minister Aleksandre Darakhvelidze, on Wednesday, highlighted the ministry’s “role and responsibility” of ensuring equality in Georgia at the opening event of the Council of Europe’s campaign ‘I choose equality’ within the framework of the project Promoting the Effective Protection of Equality and Non-Discrimination in Georgia.

Addressing the guests, including Stefan Sirbu, the deputy head of the CoE office in Georgia, Georgian government officials and accredited diplomatic corps, Darakhvelidze stressed the importance of the “effective” implementation of police activities in order for society to “enjoy unlimited rights” established by law.

The deputy minister also reviewed the activities carried out for the “successful” fight against discrimination-based intolerance crimes and emphasised the importance of “continuous support” of the council in the process, while also informing the guests on the future plans and activities planned by the ministry.
