Georgian prime minister Irakli Garibashvili on Wednesday celebrated International Day for Tolerance by saying “tolerance, appreciation of people, respect for dignity and acceptance of difference” were a “continuous tradition” of Georgia’s “great culture and history” and an “integral part of Georgian identity”.

In his remarks over the date, Garibashvili noted people of different nationalities, religions and traditions had lived together in Georgia “with dignity” and created the “history of the common homeland” over the centuries.

Even today, the foundation of building a peaceful and development-oriented society of a modern, European Georgia is precisely this great heritage and value. Every group of this public, every member of it should have the feeling that they are participants and creators of this important process”, Garibashvili said.

“The fundamental values of human rights and freedoms are recognised and guaranteed by the constitution of our country. We respect and will always protect the dignity and freedom of every citizen”, the head of government concluded.
