The Italian Embassy in Tbilisi, along with the Council of Europe (CoE) office in Georgia, hosted a conference to discuss and raise awareness about the means of ending violence against women and girls on March 25.

The conference, held in a hybrid mode, explored gender-related issues both on local and global levels and highlighted the efforts of the CoE to protect women’s rights.

During the event, Italian Ambassador to Georgia Enrico Valvo pointed out Georgia had “strong, solid roots” in terms of strengthening the role of women in society, recalling Georgia’s King Tamar, the first female ruler of the country reigned in the 12th century.

Having been in this beautiful country for two years already as Ambassador of Italy, I have been personally impressed by how vital the role of women is in Georgian society, as a true “engine” for the moral and economic development of the Nation,” Valvo said.

A number of government officials took part in the event, including Chair of the Gender Equality Council of the Parliament of Georgia Nino Tsilosani, Advisor to Georgian Prime Minister on Human Rights Niko Tatulashvili, and Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia Alexandre Darakhvelidze.
