The security, humanitarian and human rights situation in Georgia’s Russian-occupied regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) on the backdrop of Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine were in focus of a meeting between Tea Akhvlediani, Georgia’s State Minister for Reconciliation and Civil Equality, Lasha Darsalia, the Deputy Foreign Minister, and Ruslan Abashidze, the Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia on Thursday.

The meeting focused on the implementation of the policy of peaceful settlement of the conflict in Georgia’s occupied regions in both the de-occupation of the territories and reconciliation and involvement between communities, the Reconciliation Ministry said.

In her comments on the situation in the two regions, Akhvlediani mentioned future visions of the policy of reconciliation and engagement, which includes care for the local population, improvement to their socio-economic situation and restoration of dialogue and trust between “artificially divided societies”.

The parties also discussed and exchanged views on the difficult situation created by Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine, its impact on global and regional security, and the challenges facing Georgia.
