3 out of 11 right-wing activists detained for attacking journalists on July 5 to face criminal charges

Three out of 11 right-wing activists detained on July 5 for attacking journalists will face criminal charges, while two detainees have been sentenced to three days of administrative detention.

Right-wing activist Paata Gurchiani Is among the 11 detainees, who has been sentenced to three days of administrative detention, while Akaki Nakashvidze, detained for insulting Tbilisi Pride activists, has been released on 2,300 GEL bail earlier today.

The Interior Ministry reported earlier today that on July 5 during the Tbilisi Pride rally two young men were walking in Tbilisi centre when Gurchiani and other right-wing activists verbally insulted and chased them.

The detained allegedly chased the minors because the latter were wearing colorful t-shirts.

The Interior Ministry has detained three individuals for attacking journalists during the anti-Pride rally on July 5.

One of the three detainees is the driver of a moped, who attempted to drive the moped into a crowd of journalists gathered on Rustaveli Avenue.

Another detainee attacked media representatives on Rustaveli Avenue. 

Ilia Tvaliashvili, TV operator of Georgian Public Broadcaster, received eye injuries as a result of an attack by right-wing protesters yesterday. Currently he is undergoing treatment in hospital.

Tvaliashvili says a chemical liquid was poured on his face.
