Yet another opposition politician tests positive for coronavirus

Opposition Our Georgia – Solidarity Alliance member Gedevan Popkhadze has tested positive for coronavirus.

The independent MP is one of six former ruling Georgian Dream party members who established an alliance back in June.

Gedevan Popkhadze was delivered to Republic Hospital with high temperature last night.

Popkhadze’s team member Levan Gogichaishvili, who also tested positive for COVID-19, is also hospitalised.

Other members of the alliance have gone in self-isolation.

Currently 1,154 patients are undergoing treatment at Covid centres in Georgia. 11 individuals recovered in Georgia within the last 24 hours. The total number of recoveries has reached 1,381.

Georgia has reported 196 new cases of the coronavirus earlier today, the highest figure since the country confirmed its first case of COVID-19 at the end of February.145 of the 196 new patients are from the Adjara region of western Georgia. As of today 1,327 individuals remain infected with COVID-19 in the country. Despite the recent surge in the infections, the country has no plans to declare a nationwide lockdown. Georgia has reported 193 new cases of the coronavirus earlier today and announced the death of a 20th patient since the country confirmed its first case of the coronavirus at the end of February 2020.
