Independent MP Levan Gogichaishvili and his wife, TV Pirveli journalist Vika Bukia, have tested positive for the coronavirus today.
Gogichaishvili told Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) that the source of infection is not known yet and he and his wife are going to visit a hospital in the coming hours.
The press office of the party Solidarity Alliance of Georgia, to which Gogichaishvili belongs, later announced that every member of the party who had close contact with Goghichaishvili will go into self-isolation.
An official statement released by the party reads that Levan Gogichaishvili did not participate in the recent pre-election events organised by the party.
Georgia has reported 44 new cases of coronavirus earlier today, of which 25 were detected in the Ajara region.
A total of 5,882 people are in quarantine, while 19 Georgian citizens have died of the virus in the country.
Since February 26, 2020 Georgia has had 1,773 cases of the coronavirus.
