Georgia reports 44 new coronavirus cases, including 25 in Adjara

Georgia has reported 44 new cases of the coronavirus earlier today, of which 25 were detected in the Adjara region.

Medical Director of Tbilisi Infectious Disease Hospital Marina Ezugbaia said that seven new patients contracted the virus from the cluster of candy shop Dona in Georgia's Black Sea resort town of Batumi, 12 from contact from infected individuals, 12 cases are connected to Batumi, three are medical workers, two have travelled in epicenter of the epidemic, five cases are ‘imported’ of which one is a truck driver and the source of infections has not been identified in the remaining three cases.

Currently, 421 people are undergoing treatment at Covid centres of which three are in critical and 17 are in severe condition",  said Ezurgbaia. 

Meanwhile, the number of recoveries has increased by four, reaching 1,325. 

In total 19 people have died of the virus in the country, 5,882 people are in quarantine, and 41 citizens of Georgia have been transported home from abroad for treatment.

Since February 26, 2020 Georgia has had 1,773 cases of the coronavirus.
