Gov’t decreases coronavirus quarantine time to eight days for Georgia-bound travellers

If the result of the repeat PCR test is positive on the 12th day, individuals will be hospitalised if needed, said Health Minister Ekaterine Tikaradze. Individuals entering Georgia will have to spend eight days instead of 12 in quarantine in Georgia, said Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia today.

After eight days, people placed in quarantine will take a PCR test...if they are negative, they will be able to leave quarantine. However, they will still be obliged to take a second PCR test three days later.

We are decreasing the time of quarantine in order to alleviate the discomfort of our citizens, including guests…We are giving our citizens more freedom to return to their families as quickly and healthily as possible,” said Gakharia.

A few weeks ago we did not have enough evidence that decreasing the quarantine time would not lead to widespread infection.

Now we now have studies from European countries and also based on our own experience we can say that the infection can be detected on the eighth day but for more accuracy we need to conduct tests on the 12th day as well,” said Health Minister Ekaterine Tikaradze.

If the result of the repeat PCR test is positive on the 12th day, individuals will be hospitalised if needed, said Tikaradze. If hospitalisation is not needed, then the individual will be placed under quarantine and will continue treatment under the supervision of doctors.
