Over the past several days the number of new infections has surged, reaching a record 196 daily cases on September 16.

However, state and health officials say that the infection has been localised (mostly in Batumi, coastal Adjara region of Georgia) and the government has no plans to declare a national lockdown for the second time.

Health officials say that due to the early detection of the virus there are only 11 critical patients in the country.
