Georgia reports 170 new coronavirus cases

Georgia has reported a record 170 new cases of the coronavirus earlier today, of which 124 were registered in the Adjara region of Georgia, said Medical Director of Tbilisi Infectious Disease Hospital Marina Ezugbaia.

The cases were distributed in:

  • Batumi, Adjara region - 124 cases
  • Tbilisi - 20 cases
  • Kutaisi, Imereti region - 13 cases
  • Zugdidi, Samegrelo and Zemo Svaneti region - 6 cases
  • Ozurgeti, Guria region - 3 cases
  • Mtskheta-Mtianeti region - 3 case
  • Tsageri, Racha-Lechkhumi, Kvemo Svaneti region - 1 case

Elderly patients from the Batumi nursing home that have contracted the virus have been taken to various clinics to undergo treatment. Currently their health condition is stable, said head of the Nursing Home Archpriest Ioane Baramidze. He added that one of the employees of the nursing home is also infected with Covid-19, however the source of the infection is still unknown.

We have five elderly infected with Covid-19, but their health condition is stable and asymptomatic. Their rooms are closed to be disinfected. In addition, an infected employee has been on leave since September 2 and since that day quarantine has been announced in the nursing home. Currently, there are 120 people at the nursing home", Baramidze said.

Currently 1,154 patients are undergoing treatment at Covid centres in Georgia.

Meanwhile, 11 individuals recovered in Georgia within the last 24 hours. The total number of recoveries has reached 1,381.

In total 19 people have died of the virus in the country, 6,633 people are in quarantine, and 41 citizens of Georgia have been transported home from abroad for treatment.

Since February 26, 2020 Georgia has had 2,562 cases of the coronavirus.
