Strategic partnership between Georgia and Turkey, including a readiness to deepen political and economic cooperation, was discussed by Georgian prime minister Irakli Garibashvili and Turkish ambassador to Georgia Fatma Ceren Yazgan in a meeting on Thursday.

The recent opening of the Turkish market for Georgia for facilitating import of good manufacturing practices (GMP)-standard drugs - with the aim of reducing the prices of medicines in Georgia - was one of the topics discussed.

The importance of regional projects between the countries was also emphasised at the meeting, with the two politicians noting these as “examples of effective strategic cooperation, sustainable development and a reliable partnership,” the Administration of the Government of Georgia said.

Garibashvili and Ambassador Yazgan pledged to continue the cooperation against the global pandemic, while also focusing on the process of implementation of the Free Trade Agreement between the countries and the next scheduled meeting of the high-level Strategic Cooperation Council.

PM Garibashvili expressed his gratitude for Turkey's support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and stressed the significance of the ambassador's contribution to the development of bilateral relations between the two countries.
