Georgian PM discusses cooperation in education, science with Azerbaijani education minister

Expanding the cooperation between Georgia and Azerbaijan in the fields of education and science, as well as the signing of an agreement to strengthen educational institutions in the countries, were on the top of the agenda of Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili’s meeting with Azerbaijani education minister Emin Amrullayev on Tuesday. 

Garibashvili and Amrullayev discussed the agreement signed between the education ministries on Monday, noting the deal would facilitate the establishment of links between academic communities, higher education institutions and vocational schools of the two countries and strengthen the teaching of Georgian and Azerbaijani languages and literature at bachelor’s programmes.

During the meeting, the Georgian side emphasised support for the professional development of teachers in general education institutions, and in the Azerbaijani-language schools of Georgia and the Georgian-language schools of Azerbaijan, would continue.

Garibashvili said Georgia remained committed to improving the state language proficiency of Azerbaijani students in Georgia, calling it “crucial for their full integration into the process of democratic development.” 

Amrullayev also met with the country’s education minister Mikheil Chkhenkeli yesterday to discuss ways to support the education systems of the two countries.
