Booster shots of the Covid-19 vaccine will be permitted five months after getting the second shot of the Pfizer vaccine, down from the initially recommended six, the Georgian Health Ministry reports.
The ministry also says that both the initial and a different vaccine can be used as a booster shot.
Individuals vaccinated with Chinese Sinopharm or Sinovac vaccine, however, can get a booster dose in three months after receiving the second shot of the vaccine.
Vaccination with booster doses in the country began on October 13 for people over the age of 50 and individuals with chronic diseases and high-risk groups, while since November 10 Georgian citizens over the age of 18 are also allowed to receive booster vaccine shots.
The ministry also issued the recommendation that teenagers between 12 and 15 years of age should receive a second dose of Pfizer vaccine in 3-12 weeks after receiving the first dose.
Georgia has registered 4,509 new cases of coronavirus, 4,042 recoveries and 59 deaths in the last 24 hours.
A total of 1,023,779 people are fully vaccinated in the country as of today, amounting to 35.8% of the country’s adult population.
12,194 individuals were vaccinated yesterday.
Currently, Pfizer, Sinopharm and Sinovac vaccines are available in all regions of Georgia.
