Kindergartens in Gurjaani will not open due to spike in COVID-19 cases

Kindergartens in eastern Georgia’s Gurjaani municipality will not resume operation today as scheduled due to rising coronavirus cases, the Association of Gurjaani Preschool Institutions reports.

The acting head of the association, Shorena Frodiashvili, says that kindergartens are expected to open on January 15, 2022, RFE/RL’s Georgian service reports.

Georgia has registered 1,778 new cases of coronavirus, 3,234 recoveries, and 63 deaths in the past 24 hours.

Overall, only 2,674 people were vaccinated yesterday.

A total of 1,018,984 individuals are fully vaccinated in the country, amounting to 35.7% of the country’s population.
