63 kindergartens close in Tbilisi in surge of COVID-19 cases

A total of 63 kindergartens have closed in the Georgian capital city of Tbilisi since reopening on October 4 due to soaring coronavirus cases, news agency Interpressnews (IPN) reports. 

The Tbilisi Kindergarten Management Agency reports that the kindergartens will reopen as soon as the quarantine period of 12 days ends. 

Georgia registered 4,155 new cases of coronavirus and 40 deaths in the last 24 hours. 

Health officials in Georgia announced several days ago that the fifth wave of Covid-19 has already begun in the country, maintaining that ‘vaccination is the solution.’ 

However, overall only 5,309 people were vaccinated yesterday. 

A total of, 917,638 individuals are fully vaccinated in the country amounting to 32.1% of the country’s population while 1,020,110 Georgians have received at least one dose of the vaccine.
