Georgia has confirmed 20 cases of the Delta Covid-19 variant, Head of the National Disease Control Center (NCDC) Amiran Gamkrelidze says.

Gamkrelidze also said that up to 15-20% of people in Georgia are being infected with this particular strain.

He underscored as well that the ‘traditional Wuhan strain’ has drastically decreased in Georgia, while the Alpha variant, which was first discovered in the United Kingdom, is a dominant Covid-19 variant here. ,

If all of us will get vaccinated...none of the new strains will defeat us”, Gamkrelidze said.

This virus fights against individuals, societies, [and] is constantly mutating… This is very difficult to prevent and forecast”, he added.

The delta Covid-19 variant, which was first Confirmed in India, is now present in more than 80 countries.

It is considered to be more transmissible than the alpha variant, sparking concerns of further loss of lives and lockdowns, based on various international reports.
