Georgia is among the 27 countries from which travel to Belgium is banned since it has been classified as one of the high-risk countries amid concerns about the Delta variant of coronavirus in Belgium's recently updated travel measures.
An update of Belgium’s travel measures, published on June 24, bans people who spent time in Georgia as well as 26 other countries in the preceding 14 days from traveling to Belgium, either directly or indirectly, unless they are Belgian nationals or residents.
The entry ban comes into force on different dates for each country, while for Georgia it came into effect on June 26.
The measures will apply until September 30, 2021.
Belgium already halted travel from Brazil, South Africa and India in April.
Georgia confirmed 20 cases of the Delta Covid-19 variant on June 25.
Head of the National Disease Control Center (NCDC) Amiran Gamkrelidze said that about 15-20% of people in Georgia are infected with this particular strain.
Overall, Georgia has reported 352 new cases of coronavirus, 808 recoveries and nine deaths in the past 24 hours.
