Children 16 and 17 years of age may receive Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine this autumn in Georgia, Head of Georgia’s National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) Amiran Gamkrelidze has stated today.
Gamkrelidze noted that several countries have already started vaccinating children at the age of 12-15 with the Pfizer vaccine, including Canada, United States, Israel, Britain and Italy.
Head of the NCDC Gamkrelidze expressed hope that there will be enough doses of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine in Georgia by autumn. He also said Georgia will receive additional doses of Pfizer vaccine in the first week of July, while Sinopharm and Sinovac vaccines will be imported to the country in the first half of July.
Georgia started coronavirus vaccination in mid-March when the country received 43,200 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine.
The country is currently using Sinovac, Sinopharm, AstraZeneca and Pfizer vaccines for certain groups of individuals.
