Universities and vocational schools will begin in-person studies on October 19 throughout Georgia, excluding the Adjara region, as most of the newly infected cases of coronavirus have been recorded in the region in the recent weeks.

Education Minister Mikheil Chkhenkeli announced that in-person studies in schools will resume on October 1 only for grades one to six throughout the country excluding the Adjara region as it was reported a week ago.

However, Chkhenkeli noted that parents of school students who will be studying in person will have the ability to decide to have their children do remote studies.

As for school students in grades 7-12, the Georgian Health Ministry has made no specific decision yet. Chkhenkeli noted that the ministry will make an announcement regarding the issue in the coming days.

In-person studies for school and university students were postponed in the middle of September due to the sharp increase in coronavirus cases throughout the country.

Georgia has reported a record 298 new cases of the coronavirus earlier today and three deaths.

Out of the 298 new cases, 175 have been recorded in the Adjara region.

Meanwhile, 148 individuals recovered in Georgia within the last 24 hours. The total number of recoveries has reached 2,054.
