Restrictions to be imposed only in schools with confirmed coronavirus cases

Georgian Education Ministry will impose restriction only on the schools which will have confirmed cases of COVID-19.

Based on the National Centre for Disease Control all of the infected teachers and students will go into self-isolation, schools will be disinfected and continue online studies.

The Education Ministry also stated that Georgian public schools have gained experience in online studies amid the coronavirus pandemic.

As a result some 600,000 students and 55,000 teachers have full access to Microsoft office 365, which unites Microsoft TEAMS, OneNote and other online [learning] tools”, the Ministry said.

It added as well that Teleschool, offering the national curriculum via TV lessons, on the First Channel of the Georgian Public Broadcaster, will remain as the main resources for students on new academic year.

Meanwhile, to avoid the possible spread of the coronavirus, schools have been equipped with protective face masks, thermometers, sanitisers and other preventive measures.  

In-person studies in schools will resume on October 1 only for grades one to six throughout the country. However, parents will have the ability to decide to have their children do remote studies.

Some of the schools in the regions of Adjara, Guria and Samegrelo as well schools in the municipalities of Gori and Khobi, have already moved to distance learning due to confirmed coronavirus cases.
