Irakli Kobakhidze, Georgia’s newly confirmed Prime Minister, on Friday said his upcoming visit to Brussels would concern “active consultations on all topics” related to bringing the country “even closer” to the European Union.
He added his Government would “do everything” for the full integration into the bloc.
We should activate our cooperation even more after receiving the [EU membership] candidate status [in December 2023]. [...] We will discuss in detail the issues of the Association Agenda, including the nine-point implementation plan”, Kobakhidze said in reference to the 2014-signed deal and the priorities for Georgia to open accession talks with the EU.
The visit to Brussels is scheduled for February 20-21 and will be the PM’s first in his new capacity.
The Georgian Parliament on Thursday approved Kobakhidze, the former Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party, as the head of the Government with 84 votes in favour and 10 against, after the vote was triggered by the resignation of Irakli Garibashvili in late January.
