Mikheil Sarjveladze, the Chair of the Human Rights Committee of the Georgian Parliament, on Sunday said the decision of the newly approved Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze to make his first visit as the head of the Government to Brussels highlighted the country’s European integration as a “special priority” for the Government.
The fact that Brussels, the so-called capital of Europe, is chosen for the first visit is estimable [...] by this, it is especially emphasised that European integration is particularly significant, valuable for the country”, Sarjveladze told the media.
He stressed that such visits were “especially important” amid the intensified Georgian-European relations, and noted the visit to Brussels would be “a good opportunity” to brief the European partners about the ongoing processes in Georgia and to affirm the country’s readiness to “finally return to the European family”.
After being approved by the Georgian Parliament as the country’s PM last week, Kobakhidze announced that he had scheduled a visit to Brussels for February 20-21, adding the discussion agenda would concern both the European Union and NATO.
