Georgian PM heads to Brussels in first foreign trip

Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday left for his first official visit to Brussels as Georgia’s Prime Minister, the Government Administration said.
Within the framework of the visit, Kobakhidze will hold meetings with officials of European Union bodies and NATO.
The eighth meeting of the Association Council between the EU and Georgia will be hosted on Tuesday.
The meeting will be chaired by Josep Borrell, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security, with Kobakhidze leading the Georgian delegation.
Mikheil Sarjveladze, the Chair of the Human Rights Committee of the Georgian Parliament, on Sunday said the decision of the newly approved Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze to make his first visit as the head of the Government to Brussels highlighted the country’s European integration as a “special priority” for the Government.
Irakli Kobakhidze, Georgia’s newly confirmed Prime Minister, on Friday said his upcoming visit to Brussels would concern “active consultations on all topics” related to bringing the country “even closer” to the European Union.

Georgian Parliament on Thursday approved Irakli Kobakhidze, the former Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party, as the Prime Minister of Georgia, following the resignation of the former PM Irakli Garibashvili.
Josep Borrell, the European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, on Monday encouraged the Georgian Government to continue working on its European integration path.
Davit Matikashvili, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Monday said Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze’s first official visit to Brussels would be “successful”.
Nikoloz Samkharadze, the Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Georgian Parliament, on Monday said Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze visiting Brussels in his first official trip in the capacity was a “clear political signal” European Union and NATO integration was the “main direction” for the Government.
Vakhtang Makharoblishvili, Georgia's Ambassador to the European Union, on Tuesday said Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze’s visit to Brussels this week would be ”extremely interesting and informative”.
Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili on Monday said Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze’s visit to Brussels this week was “very important” for the country and its foreign political priorities.
