Georgia is a “strong supporter” of Ukraine in all international formats, Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani said on Wednesday in a briefing with Zbigniew Rau, the Chairman-in-Office of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe and Poland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs.
Zalkaliani said Georgia “categorically” condemned Russia's “premeditated aggression” against Ukraine, which “grossly violates the norms of international law and undermines the international order and the architecture of European security.”
Georgia supports Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders, as evidenced by Georgia's position in [...] all international formats, including the OSCE, where Georgia firmly adheres to the international community's coordinated and consolidated stance over Ukraine,” the top Georgian diplomat said.
In his comments, the Foreign Minister pointed out the Government supported the extension of the mandate of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission in Ukraine and appreciated the contribution by the OSCE Chairman-in-Office to the mission.
Georgia and Ukraine face common challenges today and Georgia was the first [country between the two] against which the [Russian] aggression was carried out in 2008,” Zalkaliani concluded in reference to the Russia-Georgia war.
