There are many Georgians in the Government and private citizens who are standing in solidarity with their counterparts in Ukraine, Department of State Spokesperson Ned Price said during a briefing on Thursday.
Price highlighted few countries understood to the same extent the potential implications and consequences of Russian aggression like Georgia, which in 2008 was itself invaded by Russian forces.
I think what we’ve seen over the course of the past several weeks has been a tremendous amount of unity within the international community. I think perhaps the best illustration of that is what happened in the UN General Assembly just last week, when 141 countries spanning the globe came together to condemn this unprovoked, premeditated, unjustified war against Ukraine, and to call for it to come to a close, the State Department Spokesperson said.
Georgia on March 2 voted on a United Nations General Assembly resolution to condemn Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, joining 140 other countries in the vote. The resolution demands that the Russian Federation “immediately, completely and unconditionally” withdraw all of its military from the territory of Ukraine “within its internationally recognized borders.”
