Georgian FM, US Congressman discuss Russia's Ukraine aggression, impact on peace and security in Black Sea region

Russia's aggression against Ukraine and its negative impact on peace and security in the Black Sea region were discussed by Georgian Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani and US Congressman Adam Smith, the Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, during a  video-conference on Thursday.

In the video call, Zalkaliani stressed the importance of the strong bipartisan support of the United States Congress for Georgia, focusing  on the difficult security and humanitarian situation in the Russian-occupied regions of the country. 

The Georgian official also highlighted the significance of “consolidated assistance” for Georgia from its partners in the light of the Russian aggression against Ukraine and thanked Congressman Smith for his “strong support” to Georgia.

The meeting also focused on the importance of further deepening the US-Georgia strategic partnership, especially in the field of defence and security, as well as US support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and its path to NATO and European Union membership.
