The Russian aggression in Ukraine, and the political and humanitarian assistance to the country, was discussed by the Georgian Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani and his Latvian counterpart Edgars Rkinkevics in a phone call on Friday.

In the call, Zalkaliani and Rinkevics reaffirmed their strong support for Ukraine, the Georgian Foreign Ministry said, adding the conversation had focused on the security environment in the region - complicated by the war in Ukraine - the need for a greater involvement of international partners in the region, and a further consolidation of support for Georgia.

While talking about the security challenges Georgia faces, a special attention was paid to the situation in the Russian-occupied regions of Georgia.

Zalkaliani also spoke in the call about the European Union membership application submitted by Georgia last week, and stressed the importance of a full and consistent implementation of the obligations under the Association Agreement.
