The security environment complicated by the ongoing war in Ukraine, and the political and humanitarian assistance to the country, were discussed by Georgian Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani and his Czech counterpart Jan Lipavsky in a phone call on Thursday.

In the call, Zalkaliani and Lipavsky reaffirmed their strong support for Ukraine, the Georgian Foreign Ministry said, adding the conversation had focused on the need for a greater involvement of international partners in the region and a further consolidation of support for Georgia, taking into account the “possible threats” that the ongoing processes in the region may pose to the country.

In the context of the situation in the Russian-occupied territories of Georgia, Lipavsky stated that “Czech Republic is well-aware of the challenges that Georgia faces.”

Zalkaliani also spoke in the call about the European Union membership application submitted by Georgia last week, and stressed the Government expected the support of its partners in the process.
