Georgian, Belgian PMs discuss Georgia’s EU membership application and hostilities in Ukraine

The official application submitted by Georgia for European Union membership, and the ongoing hostilities in Ukraine, were discussed by Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and his Belgian counterpart Alexander De Croo in a phone call on Tuesday.

Garibashvili welcomed the decision of the Council of the European Union, according to which the European Commission was asked to examine the applications for Union membership submitted by Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.

The PM noted this was an “additional motivation” to accelerate the reform agenda of his country, and expressed hope for a strong support of the Kingdom of Belgium and international partners in the membership bid process.

In the call, Garibashvili and De Croo also went over the situation in Ukraine and underscored the importance of the joint efforts of the international community to end hostilities as soon as possible.
