The international community must do its best to stop the war in Ukraine, Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili said on Friday.
Papuashvili emphasised Georgia was using all the necessary tools within its capabilities to help the country amid the military assault on it.
Everyone agrees that the number one task is to stop the war. We see tragic pictures from Ukraine. The war can not be justified. The first task is to stop the war, and the international community has the tools to stop it, the Parliament official noted.
Papuashvili also made comments about Georgia’s ongoing support for the state under attack, highlighting the Government’s votes in support of Ukraine at international platforms.
Kelly Degnan, the United States Ambassador to Georgia, has praised Georgian people’s “overwhelming generosity” towards Ukrainians in the face of the Russian invasion of the country which started 16 days ago, saying Georgians “know what it is like to be at war and to be attacked for no reason, just because you want to be free."
The methods used by Russia against the independence and sovereignty of Ukraine are the same it used against Georgia 14 years ago, Nikoloz Samkharadze, who chairs the Georgian Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, said on Friday.
