Maka Botchorishvili, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s European Union Integration Committee, said on Tuesday she expected the conclusion of the European Commission on Georgia’s EU membership bid would be “positive”.

Botchorishvili said the progress of Georgia as an “associate partner” of the European Union was recognised in European structures.

The conclusion of the European Commission will be very important. My expectation is that given the progress that Georgia has had, and the advantages that Georgia has over other partners, I expect the conclusion to be positive,” she noted.

The Parliament official still added “nothing can be predicted” with full certainty on the matter, saying she hoped the Commission’s would be ready “soon”.

Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Monday handed over the first completed part of Georgia’s EU membership questionnaire to Carl Hartzel, the Head of the EU Delegation to Georgia, and called the development a “paramount stage” in the EU integration process.
