Georgia's bid for European Union membership and the expectations of the upcoming NATO Summit were discussed on Friday in a meeting between a delegation of the Georgian Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Relations led by Chair Nikoloz Samkharadze, and Bertel Haarder, the Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Danish Parliament.
The meeting also focused on the Russian aggression against Ukraine and the security challenges in the Black Sea region, the press office of the Georgian Parliament said.
Samkharadze briefed his Danish counterparts on Georgia's reforms as part of the process of the country’s EU and NATO integration, the situation in the Russian-occupied Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) region, and Georgia's support for Ukraine amid the Russian invasion.
The meeting particularly focused on the NATO Summit in Madrid, with the Danish Parliament officials pledging their support for Georgia's accession to NATO and its application for EU membership. Danish lawmakers also reaffirmed their support for Georgia's territorial integrity.
