Bilateral relations between Georgia and Denmark and cooperation in regional formats were discussed on Monday in a meeting between Levan Davitashvili, the Georgian Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, and Denmark's Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen.

The meeting highlighted the support of Denmark for Georgia's European integration process, the Georgian Ministry of Economy said.

They reviewed priority matters including economic cooperation, transport and logistics, renewable energy, trade and tourism, noting direct airline connections - set to be launched late this year - would have a “positive impact” on bilateral economic relations.

The officials noted “great interest” in increasing cargo turnover between Europe and Asia through the Middle Corridor logistics route passing through Georgia, pointing out the significance of developing “appropriate transport and logistics infrastructure” for the purpose.

Davitashvili provided information about important projects related to the objective, including the expansion of the Poti Port on the Black Sea coast of the country, project for the deepwater port of Anaklia and modernisation of railways across Georgia.

The meeting also “positively assessed” the regional Black Sea submarine electricity cable project for connecting the energy grids of Georgia and the South Caucasus to the European Union.
