Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Friday thanked state agencies and individuals who “spared no effort” in completing the second, more voluminous part of the country’s European Union membership questionnaire “in the shortest possible time”.

Earlier today, Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili said the work on the second part of the questionnaire had been completed, with only the “technical part” of the document requiring preparation before submission.

The sectoral part of the European Commission questionnaire included 33 chapters and up to 2,300 questions. The EU had set May 13 as the deadline for its submission, however the Georgian Government aimed to complete the document earlier.

Garibashvili handed over the first completed part of the questionnaire to Carl Hartzel, the Head of the EU Delegation to Georgia, on May 2.

Based on the questionnaire, the European Commission will prepare an evaluation report on granting the candidate status to the country, with the relevant decision expected by the end of June.
