Georgia will receive European Union member status at the end of June, Irakli Zarkua, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party, said on Tuesday.

Zarkua said receiving the EU membership status “will be the merit” of every citizen of the country, adding all state agencies were involved in filling out the country’s membership questionnaire with “great responsibility”.

The MP called an acquisition of the membership status a “historic chance” for Georgia, adding it would be a “beautiful crowning” of the reforms and policies of the Government in the economy and the constitution.

The Georgian Government will hand over the second completed part of the country’s European Union membership questionnaire to the European Commission on Tuesday. Based on the questionnaire, the European Commission will prepare an evaluation report on granting candidate status to the country.
