Maka Botchorishvili, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s European Union Integration Committee, on Monday said the upcoming two weeks would be “very important” for the European Commission’s evaluation of Georgia’s EU membership bid.
Botchorishvili said she expected the Commission would “objectively assess the progress” Georgia had made since the signing of the Association Agreement with the Union in 2014, the Georgian Public Broadcaster said.
"Of course, we are waiting for a decision from European Union member states, and in the process, there will probably be speculation about any idea [regarding the evaluation of the membership bid]”, the MP said.
The Parliament official also noted EU member states were “currently forming positions” on membership applications by Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova, noting the significance of providing “as much information as possible” to partner countries about Georgia’s expectations around the decision.
