Malta supports Georgia’s European integration and intends to back its application for the membership candidate status in December, Maka Botchorishvili, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament's European Union Integration Committee, said on Monday.

Making the comment as part of a Georgian Parliamentary delegation’s visit to Malta, Botchorishvili said the Maltese Government welcomed the prospect of the EU's enlargement and had a “positive attitude” towards Georgia.

In his comments during the visit, Angelo Farrugia, the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Malta, said Georgia had his Government’s “complete support” in the European integration process and pledged support for the country in the process.

He said parliamentary ties could be used to “strengthen the effort that would ensure Georgia’s full membership in the EU”.
