Georgia will host the 2023 UEFA European Under-21 Championship, Irakli Karseladze, the Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure, revealed on Tuesday.
Karseladze said the football championship, including its final phase, would be held in Georgia and noted the Ministry’s Municipal Development Fund would allocate about ₾100 million (about $32 mln/€30 mln) on the project.
The budget will be used for rehabilitation works as well as construction of new stadiums in capital Tbilisi, holiday town of Saguramo near the capital, as well as in the western city of Kutaisi, the resort town of Tskaltubo, and the Black Sea coastal cities of Batumi and Kobuleti.
A total of 12 UEFA-standard infrastructure facilities will be constructed within the project, including stadiums and training facilities.
The construction works will start in 2022 and be completed next year.
The championship will be held between June 21-July 8.
