The tournament trophy of the 2023 UEFA European U21 Championship will start its journey from Georgia’s Black Sea coastal city of Batumi across the country before ending up in the capital city of Tbilisi to mark the country’s co-hosting of the competition, the Government of the Black Sea region of Adjara announced on Friday.
The symbol of the Championship is set to be introduced to the Era Square in Batumi on Sunday by Aleksandre Iashvili, the former national team player and Vice President of the Georgian Football Federation, before a concert involving popular performers celebrates the start of the journey.
The cup will then arrive in northwestern Georgia’s highland town of Mestia, before continuing its travel to the western hub city of Kutaisi in May.
Also arriving in the northwestern town of Ambrolauri and Kazbegi in the country’s north, the trophy is scheduled to be finally delivered to the capital.
Games of the Championship - scheduled between June 21-July 8 and co-hosted by Georgia and Romania - will run in Tbilisi, Kutaisi and Batumi.
