Gianni Infantino, the President of the International Association Football Federation, on Wednesday praised Levan Kobiashvili, the President of the Georgian Football Federation, for playing a “central role” in the country co-hosting the UEFA European Under-21 Championship last year.
In his social media post, Infantino said he was “very happy” to meet Kobiashvili, and noted the meeting discussed the “ongoing exciting development” of Georgian football.
He highlighted the hosting of a “major European tournament to the country last summer”, after Georgia and Romania played host to fixtures of the event.
“obiashvili is one of a growing group of former players who have the energy, intelligence and vision to leverage their vast experience to bring about positive change in football in their country”, he said.
The official added the GFF President had displayed the country’s capacity for hosting “significant football events”.
