The Georgian national team's draw with the Netherlands on Tuesday, and the squad’s advancement to the quarter-final stage of the UEFA Under-21 European Championship received attention from European media outlets.

The team’s 1:1 draw in the final match of the group stage saw British news website Daily Mail’s Dominic Hogan note the co-hosts of the Championship had “sealed a historic qualification” with the result.

“Georgia's U21 Euros dream continues as the debutant hosts top Group A with a draw against Netherlands”, Hogan said in the article.

In its match report, UEFA highlighted the “sensational solo goal” by the team’s Zuriko Davitashvili, adding Georgia remained unbeaten and topped in the group.

France’s beIN SPORTS on Wednesday reported on the match under the title “Euro U21: Georgia achieves a historic feat by reaching the quarters!”.

Jordi Archs, the football editor of Mundodeportivo, in his article said the Georgian team, led by Ramaz Svanadze, had become the first host side since Sweden in 2009 to advance from the group stage.

The author of the article also mentioned the “historic” record of 43,043 spectators watching the match of the competition's final round, and referred to Davitashvili as a “great architect” of the game, while also praising his “great goal” by calling it “worthy of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia”, in reference to the Georgian midfielder of Napoli.

In the match, which was hosted at Dinamo Arena in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi, Davitashvili’s 42nd minute goal was followed by an equaliser by the visiting team’s Kenneth Taylor four minutes later.

The Championship’s attendance saw a new record with 43,004 filling the stands at the stadium, up from 41,881 for the previous game against Belgium.
