Heavy rain hits Adjara, Imereti, Shida Kartli regions of Georgia

Heavy rain has hit some municipalities in the Georgian regions of Adjara, Imereti and Shida Kartli today and yesterday, causing landslides and damage to roads, bridges and agricultural lands.

Ground floors and greenhouses have been flooded in Surami and Khashuri municipalities in Shida Kartli.

Noting that the drainage system needs to be improved in the municipalities, acting governor of Shida Kartli region Simon Guledani said the situation in all of the four municipalities is currently stable.

Roads and bridges have been damaged in Khulo and Keda municipalities of Adjara as well where heavy rain has caused landslides.

Heavy rain hits Batumi

Heavy rain has hit Batumi, the capital of the Georgian Black Sea region of Adjara, causing flooding in the streets and the central highway. Head of the local water company Giorgi Siradze said all of the services of the Batumi City Hall are working in emergency mode.

Heavy rain hits western Oni municipality, damages 10 bridges, central highway

Heavy rain has hit 12 villages in Georgia’s western Oni municipality (Racha region). Ten bridges have been washed away by the Rioni River. Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia’s advisor for regional development issues Sozar Subari, Director of the United Water Supply Company Giga Mandaria, and Head of Emergency Management Service Temur Mgebrshvili will study the disaster on the ground.

The new building of Batumi Republican Hospital has been flooded following heavy rainfall in western Georgia, local media outlet Batumelebi reported today. Batumelebi’s source reported that this is not the first time ‘when the ground floor of the new building has been flooded’ noting that the water gets into the building from the soil as well.

Dozens of highland villages cut off from outside world due to heavy rainfall in western Georgia

More than 20 villages have been cut off from the outside world in western Georgian’s Lentekhi municipality due to heavy rainfall. As a result of the continuous rain, the Tskhenistskali river overflowed, which swept away substations and left four villages without electricity. Mayor of Lentekhi municipality Badri Liparteliani told on.ge that traffic on the connecting central section of Kutaisi-Tskaltubo-Lentekhi-Lasdili is paralysed.
