Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Monday met with Mikheil Shakulashvili, the newly appointed Government Representative in central Georgia’s Shida Kartli region, tasked with coordinating the implementation of “regional policy and individual measures” of the local self-government reform.
At the meeting in the Government Administration, the two officials reviewed the ongoing and pending regional projects, the Government Administration said.
Having previously held several positions at the Prosecutor General’s Office of Georgia, Shakulashvili has a PhD in Law and is an Associated Professor at Alte University and Tbilisi Open University.
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Saturday inspected rehabilitation works ongoing as part of the Renewed Regions state programme in central-eastern Georgia’s Shida Kartli region, the Government Administration said.
Heavy rain has hit some municipalities in the Georgian regions of Adjara, Imereti and Shida Kartli today and yesterday, causing landslides and damage to roads, bridges and agricultural lands.
Eleven days are left until the October 2 municipal elections in Georgia when voters will elect 64 mayors and 2,068 members in 64 city councils. The lead up to the elections has been marked by the ruling party’s withdrawal from the April 19 EU-mediated agreement, an attack on journalists by right-wing activists in July during Tbilisi Pride events, the recent leak of alleged personal files and continued vows of Georgia’s ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili that he will return.
Shida Kartli is the next destination Georgia’s Prime Minister, Irakli Garibashvili, will promote on his country-wide tour that highlights he economic potential of Georgia’s regions. The regional tour is part of the Strong Region for Strong Georgia Governmental program.
