Georgia’s region Shida Kartli in focus of Governmental program

PM said Shida Kartli had very promising resource in producing fruit, cultivating fruit gardens and developing nurseries.

Shida Kartli is the next destination Georgia’s Prime Minister, Irakli Garibashvili, is promoting on his country-wide tour that highlights the economic potential of Georgia’s regions. The regional tour is part of the Strong Region for Strong Georgia Governmental program.

Today, Garibashvili met regional government representatives in Shida Kartli and discussed the prospects for the region’s economic development. The sides also organised action to be taken in near future.

"This year the construction of 480 residential apartment buildings will start. [This is] where IDP families will live. This year during the spring works, 75,490 beneficiaries will benefit from 8 million GEL worth of the assistance,” Garibashvili said.

Irakli Garibashvili met regional government representatives in Shida Kartli.

At the same time, the PM talked about the Shida Kartli’s economic potential and said the region had a very promising resource in producing fruit, cultivating fruit gardens and developing nurseries.

Garibashvili said the Government felt a special responsibility towards Shida Kartli region, as it was heavily affected by the Russia-Georgia war in August 2008. The regional capital of Shida Kartli, Gori was attacked by Russian soldiers and still today the Russian occupation line cross Shida Kartli villages.

"Gori has perspective to develop brick production, lining processing, clothing and textile industry, sweets producing, waste paper processing. Kaspi (another city in Shida Kartli) has tiling, cardboard producing and leather processing resources. Kaerli (city in Shida Kartli) has resources for processing the natural resources. Khashuri – furniture and glass producing,” Garibashvili said.

Garibashvili promised full Governmental support if the regional government put extra effort into developing the region's economy.
