Heavy rain, hail and wind have hit Akhmeta, Gurjanai and Sagarejo municipalities in Georgia’s eastern region of Kakheti damaging agricultural land plots and roads.
The Georgian service of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reports that the Kakheti region has been damaged by rain three times during the last ten days.
The First Channel of the Georgian Public Broadcaster has meanwhile shared a photo of a fallen tree in the Kavsadze street in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi.
Heavy rain has hit some municipalities in the Georgian regions of Adjara, Imereti and Shida Kartli today and yesterday, causing landslides and damage to roads, bridges and agricultural lands.
Tbilisi’s Didi Digomi district was flooded by heavy rain last night. The Emergency Management Service of the Interior Ministry has received up to 100 calls about the damage since last night.
Heavy rain has hit Batumi, the capital of the Georgian Black Sea region of Adjara, causing flooding in the streets and the central highway. Head of the local water company Giorgi Siradze said all of the services of the Batumi City Hall are working in emergency mode.
Heavy rains have hit Lagodekhi, Kvareli and Akhmeta municipalities in Georgia’s eastern Kakheti region. Agricultural land plots and roads were damaged as the water level in the rivers of Duruji, Orvila and Kabali increased.
The new building of Batumi Republican Hospital has been flooded following heavy rainfall in western Georgia, local media outlet Batumelebi reported today. Batumelebi’s source reported that this is not the first time ‘when the ground floor of the new building has been flooded’ noting that the water gets into the building from the soil as well.
Heavy hail has damaged vineyards and houses in several municipalities of the Georgian wine region of Kakheti. Kakheti Governor Irakli Shioshvili promised that all the damaged houses would be repaired. The amount of damage has not been determined at this stage.
The Georgian government has allocated 14 million GEL in subsidies to assist in the harvesting of grapes damaged by heavy hail in the Georgian wine region of Kakheti on August 27 and September 2. The government is also subsidising the 2021 grape harvest to financially support farmers during the pandemic
The Georgian Government will subsidise the 2022 grape harvest due to the "record-high grape yield", Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili announced at today's Government meeting.
